It was a dream come true to be the keynote speaker at this years ‘This Is Me’ event for International Women’s Day! Back in March I was invited to travel to Melbourne to share my personal journey of living with MND with an incredible audience at Collingwood Town Hall.
Now in its third year, This Is Me is a movement brought to life by social enterprise Full Circle. The event is designed to showcase and celebrate women authentically, advocating for self-acceptance, self-love and acknowledging our worth as women. It has been wonderful to see it go from strength to strength, powered by a passionate group of volunteers with a dream to make a difference in the way women see themselves. There were many women from all walks of life telling their stories of hardships, or their struggles to be accepted in the world. It was very inspiring!
The atmosphere on the day was electric… to be honest I’m still riding the high all these weeks later. After a very early flight from Brisbane with my support team, we made it to the venue. From there it was straight into hair and makeup. The amazing Elite Makeup Academy worked their magic before it was time for me to take the stage.
You could seriously hear a pin drop as I watched the audience connect deeply with my message of finding awesomeness even in the face of adversity. I was absolutely blown away by the standing ovation I received. To think I didn’t even speak a word that day, it was a reminder that anything is possible. This has given me inspiration and fuelled my purpose even more. Something I will never forget.
Since then my speaking engagements, both in person and online, have been coming in thick and fast. I know nothing can stop me now. I refuse to let MND hold me back and will continue to pursue my purpose to inspire others and be a force for transformational mindset change, no matter what life may throw at you! Watch out world!
